Today, you can help build World Peace by WITNESSING and writing an email.  Is there any unjust matter in your community that disturbs you?  Something that has been on your heart?  Perhaps recent school shootings have made you think that gun control laws need some refining?  Perhaps Italy’s announcement of a decision to re-try Amanda Knox made you think you would like to say something to the US State Department?  Would you consider writing one email?

Now you can go to http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml and simply click on your state and get information on your congressman, your senator, or federal agencies like the State Department.  Each office has staff designated to respond to inquiries from voters.  On that same website, if you want to reach your local government, enter your target, such as “Phoenix Mayor”, and hit <enter>.  You will taken promptly to a City of Phoenix website showing you the email address to reach the Mayor.

So why not email your message today?  WITNESS that need.  Take a small step.  Or more.  Are you in?  Now here is AGNT’s contemplation for SNV Day 60:

DAY 60 Mar. 30: The thought for today is WITNESSING.

“We are each other’s bond.”

                                                — poet Gwendolyn Brooks

Those who practice nonviolence cannot close their eyes to injustice or cruelty.  We are here to be a witness for justice and compassion.  Those who practice nonviolence look at injustice or cruelty and know that it is possible for the situation to be different.  You can stand up for truth by your presence, your words and your actions, and by doing so, make a difference.

Today:  When I see injustice, I will say or take action to bring about a peaceful change.  I will write down my thoughts about the action I took, and share this with another person.

On this 59th day of the Season for NonViolence, we turn our attention to the idea of INTERVENTION.  Perhaps you know someone who is in the throes of an addiction and either does not think they are addicted, or could use some support in getting help.

“If you are headed in the wrong direction, God allows U-turns.”

–Unknown

Today, many resources are available online, for all kinds of addictions.  You don’t have to solve someone’s addiction issues yourself.  But you can share a weblink, a flier, or a book with them.  If you share that addiction but have mainly beaten it, why not invite this acquaintance to your AA meeting or other support group?  Is it time for you to take steps to make a difference for this person?

Here is AGNT’s contemplation for this day:

DAY 59 Mar. 29: The thought for today is INTERVENTION.  Alcohol and drug abuse is both a consequence of, and a cause of, violence.  You can make a difference in someone’s life through intervention.

Today:  I will have the courage to intervene in a caring way with someone who is using alcohol or drugs.  Through my honest, straightforward, and nonviolent communication, I will encourage them to get educated, get help, get sober and free from substances.

Peaceful People:  Day 58 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Citizenship

© 2014  Kebba Buckley Button, MS, OM.  World Rights Reserved.            AGNT, SNV, Peace Within, nonviolence, peaceIs World Peace possible?  One year ago, US President Barack Obama gave a speech in Israel, in which he said “Peace is necessary… Peace is possible.”  If you would like the possibility to become the reality, today consider the quality of  CITIZENSHIP.  Participation in the life and thinking of your community can shift events more than you might think.  The qualities your participation expresses can cause others to shift their own behavior, because they admire and begin to model your nonviolent qualities.  Also, you may be moved to invite others to join you in participation, such as an email campaign or a committee. Get out your journal or iPad and make a list of your positive qualities.  How do you express nonviolence already, and how do you feel led to further activities in CITIZENSHIP?  Take 5 minutes to journal about these.  You can always add more later.  Have you noticed others admiring or copying you?  Here is AGNT’s contemplation for Day 58 of the SNV: DAY 58 Mar. 28: The thought for today is CITIZENSHIP.  Robert Muller, former Assistant Secretary General to the United Nations urges, “Use every letter you write, every conversation you have, every meeting you attend, to express your fundamental beliefs and dreams.” Make a difference in your community by becoming involved.

To be a citizen means to help your community be the best it can be.  You are a member of many communities:  your family, your place of work or school, your place of worship, your city, your country, and the planet.  Participation in your community presents an opportunity to model nonviolent action, peaceful resolution, and how each of us can and do make a difference. Today:  I will call or write one of my legislators and register my views.  I will tell at least three people of my efforts and ask them to do the same. ——————————————– ● Kebba Buckley Button is the author of the 2013 book, Peace Within:  Your Peaceful Inner Core (Second Edition).   It’s a book to keep with you constantly, to quickly recharge your Peace Within, with quotes, photos, and poems that take you directly there!  Kebba is a corporate stress management trainer, and she also has a holistic healing practice. ● Liked this article?  Why not buy Kebba’s books?  Just click the links!

Peaceful People:  Day 57 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Service

Peace-loving people, greetings!  Today we’re talking about SERVICE. While many people are working on the consciousness of attracting and receiving Go(o)d Things, it’s important sometimes to think about how we can serve up Go(o)d Things.  It supports the Law of Circulation if we are giving as well as being open to receiving.  In fact, we can completely let go of programming what we would like to receive.  We can instead simply be open to calls to service, and we can trust the Universe to provide for our needs.

Have you noticed certain forms of SERVICE tugging at your consciousness?  Do you keep hearing about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, serving meals at St. Vincent de Paul dining rooms, or packing food at your local food bank?  Has that senior widow neighbor of yours been on your mind, perhaps needing rides, handywork, or a listening ear?  Does the botanical garden or science museum need just such professionals as you, to serve on their boards of directors? SERVICE to the world may be an ongoing, long-term project, or it may be a one-shot kindness.

A 70-something insurance broker friend recently was called to start coaching youth baseball.  He didn’t even know he could do that well, and he has made a great difference to the league.  Today, a neighbor texted, just as I was falling asleep for a deeply-needed nap; she had locked herself out of her condo.  This was a clear call to SERVICE,  from the Universe.  I asked my husband if he had his locksmithing equipment with him, I got a large to-go glass of cold water for my neighbor to drink, and off we went to help her get into her condo.  Then she and I searched for the lost keys.

Are you hearing a call?  Then go forth and serve!  You never know what will open up, for them, and for you.  Whatever call you’re hearing, this one’s for you!  Here is AGNT’s contemplation for this day:

AGNT, SNV, nonviolence, Peace Within, SNV, service

DAY 57 Mar. 27: The thought for today is SERVICE.  Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve …  you only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.”   How can you serve today?

What really gives value to anything is its usefulness in serving others. Our life draws its value not from the money we make, or the prizes we win, or the power we wield over others, but from the service we give every day to add a little bit more to the happiness of our family and our community.  And when you serve, do it without thinking of getting anything in return. Do it as a service to the universe, not reluctantly, but with joy.  By doing so, you are a model to others, and add to a culture of nonviolence.

Today:  I will volunteer a minimum of two hours this week with an organization of my choice and share my commitment with at least one person.  I will do one thing today to help somebody at home, at school or work, or in my community, and then write a paragraph about the experience.

Peaceful People:  Day 56 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Self-Sufficiency

© 2014 Kebba Buckley Button, MS, OM.  World Rights Reserved.

AGNT. SNV, nonviolence, Peace Within, peace, self-sufficiencyThe best World Peace is a sustainable peace.  Economies have to be working in healthy ways, for a sustainable peace, within and among countries.  Often, creating micromarkets for baked goods, for weaving, or for clothing, allows women, even in closed and impoverished societies, to begin generating incomes that change communities.  Micromarkets generate hope as well as SELF-SUFFICIENCY. Sometimes, a village water well is what shifts a community into SELF-SUFFICIENCY, as in India.  Sometimes sand-box water filters make the difference in permitting SELF-SUFFICIENCY, as in the riverside fishing communities in Brazil. When communities change, provinces change, countries can change, and the face of the World can change.

Here is AGNT’s meditation for SNV Day 56:

DAY 56 Mar. 26: The thought for today is SELF-SUFFICIENCY.  People need the dignity of work and the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families.  Economic SELF-SUFFICIENCY is a requirement for a nonviolent world.

“Interdependence is and ought to be as much the ideal of man as self-sufficiency.”

Mahatma  Gandhi

For Gandhi, economic SELF-SUFFICIENCY – symbolized by the spinning wheel – was a vital element of independence from colonial rule and from oppressive economic conditions.

AGNT, SNV, peace, Peace Within, self-sufficiency, Gandhi

AGNT

Today:  I will discover the satisfaction of making something for myself instead of buying something – and from spending time in self-sufficient quiet reflection or meditation.   If I know someone who is looking for employment, I will offer to assist them with a resumé, an application, making phone calls, or practicing interviewing.

Peaceful People:  Day 55 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Responsibility

© 2014 Kebba Buckley Button, MS, OM.  World Rights Reserved.

AGNT, SNV, Peace Within, nonviolence

AGNT

Today is Day 55 of AGNT’s Season for NonViolence.   Today, you’ll want your journal or iPad out again, as we consider RESPONSIBILITY.  Ready?

How much RESPONSIBILITY do you take for your life and the quality of life around you? Do you believe that you are the person who puts your left foot in front of your right, to take any action in life?  Do you take RESPONSIBILITY  for the unproductive or negative results of the risks you take?  Do you nurture your relationship with the Divine and take RESPONSIBILITY for following the guidance you receive?  Do you help your loved ones, sharing household RESPONSIBILITY when they are sick or having a difficult day?  Do you share in your community by voting and by attending your HOA meetings?  Do you fill your car’s gas tank and eat the right lunch for your body?

Did you get your answers into your journal?  Then you are ready for AGNT’s Day 55 meditation:

DAY 55 Mar. 25: The thought for today is RESPONSIBILITY.  The quality of your community starts with you.  Take RESPONSIBILITY wherever you are.   Whatever we are today is the result of what we have thought, spoken, and done in all the previous moments before now.  The RESPONSIBILITY for both present and future is in our own hands. If we live right today, then tomorrow will be right.  This applies to our physical, emotional and spiritual life; we each have the ultimate RESPONSIBILITY for our choices.

Today:  I will pick up trash that is not my own, whether at home, at the office or on the street.   If there is a conflict present in my life, I will take responsibility for my part in the conflict.

Peaceful People:  Day 54 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Giving

© 2014 Kebba Buckley Button, MS, OM.  World Rights Reserved.

SNV, nonviolence, Peace Within, givingToday, you can help build a peaceful world by GIVING, even a little.  Sound interesting?  Oh, and get out your journal and pen (or laptop, or iPad) now.  In case you are just joining this series, we are celebrating the themes of the Season for NonViolence, or SNV, a program created by the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT) 17 years ago.  There is a different theme, thought, or key word to ponder or meditate with each day, and possibly act upon, if you are so moved.  Most peace building has nothing whatever to do with making signs and joining a march or taking a bus to Washington.  Most is about changing our inner selves so that we reflect differently as we look at others.  Then we can BE the peace we want to see.  Our actions and the World will change as we change.

So to what and whom are you currently GIVING?  Where do your time and attention go?  Where do you give your love?  Where does your money go?  Take a few minutes and journal about where you put your energy and other resources.  Now ask yourself which areas you feel great about, which you think are a waste for you, and which you would like to give more to, in some way.  You can change your answers from year to year and month to month.  So you may want to come back to this contemplation every month for a while.  And remember, as we change, the World changes a bit.

Now you are ready for AGNT’s contemplation for Day 54:

DAY 54 Mar. 24: The thought for today is GIVING.  Practice generously giving by sharing time, talent, energy and material resources with others.  Whatever you give, do it without thinking of getting anything in return. Do it as a service, not reluctantly, but with joy.  That is a real gift.

AGNT, SNV, nonviolence, Peace Within, peace, giving

AGNT

Whatever you give, be sure it is from the heart:

“Not in what we give, but what we share,

For the gift without the giver is bare.”

–Poet James Russell Lowell

Today:  I will clean out my closet, bureau drawers, or garage and give away things I’m not using.  I will give my time to a volunteer organization and my financial resources to a cause that supports and practices nonviolence.
