AGNT

If you have been following this series of articles, you’ve had 62 days already to consider the Season for NonViolence, or SNV, this year.  You’ve also been considering your personal role as a force for nonviolence.  You know by now that qualities within you, and the nature of your interactions with others, are the building blocks of nonviolence, locally and globally.  If you are new to this series, while today is the next-to-last day of the SNV for this year, you can still read the articles on the 64 qualities at your leisure (http://PeacefulPeople.wordpress.com ).  And of course, you can consider today’s essential quality, RELEASE.

“By letting it go it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try, the world is beyond the winning.”
–Lao Tzu

Today, we consider AGNT’s theme of RELEASE.  Do you ever feel distracted from your work or your favorite sport by repeated thoughts of certain aggravations?  Do you ever find you’re feeling pent up, or others “set you off” easily?  Those thoughts and feelings are the ones to consider releasing.  When we remain attached to aggravations, we cannot be in peace.  We must RELEASE frustrations, pain, anger, and fear, to be able to be clear minded and peaceful.  Non-attachment, or peace within you, leads to peaceful interactions with others, which can lead to peacefulness on a large scale, especially with many others practicing peacefulness.  Here now is AGNT’s contemplation for Day 63:

DAY 63 Apr. 2: The thought for today is RELEASE.  A Sufi proverb says “when the heart weeps for what it has lost, the spirit laughs for what is found.”  Release the weight of your past, the judgments of yourself and others, and be the change you wish to see.  Make room for what is here in this present moment, release the hurts and resentments and mistakes of the past and be present to the nonviolent presence you are right here right now.  In the presence of a man or woman in whom all hostility has been released, others cannot be hostile. In the presence of a man or woman in whom all fear has been released, no one can be afraid. This is the power of true nonviolence, as we can see in the life of Gandhi. Because he had released all hostility, he was a profound force for peace.

Today:  I reflect back on how far I have come during this 64 day journey.  I release the idea that World Peace is not possible by acknowledging that I really do make a difference.  Say out loud, “I DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!”

Peaceful People: Day 31 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Praise

Peace Within, peace, SNV, nonviolence, praise, Therese of Lisieux

AGNT

Today we celebrate the 31st day of the Season for NonViolence, that 64-day period each year when we contemplate the qualities that help us BE the peace we want to see.  Today we focus on PRAISE. We need to praise others, and each praise our Self, liberally and generously.  And we need to praise the Divine for all the Go(o)d in our lives, right now and always.  Perhaps you have seen the Prayer of St. Thérèse, written by Thérèse of Lisieux in the late 1800’s. Thérèse had followed her older sisters into the convent in Lisieux, France, and she lived a short yet intensely creative and loving life of devotion to God. Regrettably, Thérèse died at age 24 of tuberculosis.  The final line of her most famous poem, in English translation, offers:

“Let this Presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.”

― Thérèse de Lisieux

To BE the peace you want to see, remember to praise the Presence.  Praise God.  Praise the Living, Loving Spirit of All Life.

Here is AGNT’s contemplation for Day 31:

DAY 31 Mar. 1: The thought for today is PRAISE.  Appreciation helps people to grow.  Offer praise to the people you encounter today for their personal qualities, achievements or helpful service.   Telling someone what you appreciate about them is paramount in nonviolent communication.

Praise is important for ourselves, too.  Louise Hay says “Praise yourself as much as you can … The love in our lives begins with us … Loving yourself will help heal this planet.”  Peace in our world begins with each and every one of us.

Today:  I will give sincere praise to at least three people today for their personal qualities, achievements, or helpful service, and then to myself.   I will journal about the experience and feelings of each encounter.
